HON AJALA MEDIATES BETWEEN POWER COMPANY AND CONCERNED RESIDENTS COMMUNITY

What could have turned out to a total breakdown of law and order between the Ikeja Electric Power Distribution Company, the firm in charge of power distribution, and a pressure group in the community on the issue of power supply known as was averted yesterday through Hon Ajala's quick and proactive intervention.
The pressure group, known as "Concerned Residents Community CRC, Idi Oro area had issued a directive to the consumers in the area to stop paying the bills given to them by Ikeja Electricity Company. They directed residents that they should rather pay the sum of N500.00 flat rate on monthly basis. This, according to them was as a result of poor and irregular supply of the power to the community.
Having heard of the directive, the task force unit from power company mobilised members to disconnect power from houses within the community.
However, the Marketing Manager of the Ikeja Power Distribution Company, Mr Desmond, together with the with the intervention of the Executive Chairman, Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala prevented the task force from carrying out the disconnection, which might trigger a crisis in the area. The Chairman immediately held a meeting with both parties in his home at1, Imoru street in Idi Oro. In his submission, Mr Desmond said the agitation by the group was out of place as consumption of electricity cannot be determined with time.
The group had earlier claimed that there had been increment in the billing with inconsistent power supply. Hon Ajala thanked both parties for coming to the discussion table.
He said both parties had cogent points to justify their actions. He however called for peaceful resolution on the matter for the benefit of both parties and the community in general.
He appealed to the residents of the community to continue paying the amount given to them and called on the distribution company also to improve in their services and extend the same treatment they are giving to the people in the highbrow areas to the people in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
Mr Desmond thanked the Executive Chairman for his prompt intervention on the matter. He said: "We have little problem with the feeders that distribute power from Ikorodu grid and in order not to leave people in total darkness, we have to ration power distribution from Oworo to supply the community. He promised a significant improvement in the service to the community very soon.
